Crisisnoodopvang Almelo (Bellavistastraat)
Almelo council agreed in autumn 2024 to use a vacant ZorgAccent office building at Bellavistastraat 5 as temporary shelter for up to 70 asylum seekers. After a residents' meeting the council set a firm end date of 1 July 2027 and agreed to extra supervision; 24/7 security is present on site. A legal challenge over whether the shelter was genuinely temporary fell away after the council confirmed the time limit.

Council backs temporary shelter at Bellavistastraat
Almelo council responded positively to housing up to 70 asylum seekers in a vacant office building, with a final end date later fixed at 1 July 2027.
Cost
Dutch asylum reception is funded by central government through the COA. At an illustrative benchmark of about €184 per person per night for emergency reception (noodopvang), the 68 people recorded here on 13 August 2025 imply roughly €4.6m per year. This is an order-of-magnitude figure for context only, not a site-specific invoice — emergency reception typically runs around three times the cost of a regular centre.
