About Migrant Hotel Tracker
An independent platform tracking UK government spending on asylum accommodation using official data and verified sources.
Purpose
The UK government spends billions annually on the asylum accommodation system across multiple departments including the Home Office, Border Force, the NHS, and the Ministry of Justice. This makes it difficult for citizens to understand the full picture.
We aggregate official government publications, National Audit Office reports, parliamentary records, and verified news investigations into one place. The result is a clear, real time view of how public money is allocated within the asylum system.
Our goal is to give every UK taxpayer the information they need to understand where their money goes. Transparency is the foundation of accountability.
What We Do
Real Time Spending Tracker
A live counter showing government expenditure on the asylum system based on official annual figures, broken down to the second.
Interactive UK Map
Every known asylum accommodation site plotted on a map with cost data, bed counts, and source citations.
Community Contributions
Verified users can submit location updates. Every submission goes through a verification process before appearing on the map.
Alternative Spending Analysis
We show what the same money could fund: NHS nurses, GP appointments, houses, and cancer treatments. All figures sourced from official NHS and ONS data.
Data Principles
- โSource everything. Every figure links back to its original government publication, NAO report, or verified news source.
- โOfficial data first. Home Office, NAO, ONS, and NHS England data takes priority. News sources corroborate only.
- โShow the working. Our methodology explains every calculation and states all assumptions.
- โCorrect errors openly. If something is wrong, we fix it and note the change. Accuracy over speed.
Privacy
We use essential cookies for security and advertising cookies to fund the platform. No personal data is sold or shared. Location contributions are anonymous and voluntary. See our Privacy Policy for full details on data collection.
