First reception, not reception proper. CATEs are police-run facilities where people are identified and given first aid on arrival; by law a stay cannot exceed 72 hours. People move on from here into the reception system, into a detention centre, or are released. Their figures must not be added to reception totals.
Temporary attention centre at Barranco Seco, Gran Canaria, with temporary and fixed infrastructure installed from November 2020 as the Atlantic route intensified. It replaced the makeshift quayside processing at Arguineguín. A CIE detention centre also operates at Barranco Seco, the two are distinct facilities on the same site area.
