Complejo Holiday Club Puerto Calma

Puerto Rico, Mogán, 35130 Las Palmas · Las Palmas

Managed by Cruz Roja (reception management)

Historical use. This tourist establishment was used for temporary migrant accommodation in 2020-21, at the request of the Red Cross, while state facilities were being prepared. It is not recorded as being in reception use now. The facts here come from Canary Islands press reporting at the time and from Supreme Court judgment STS 197/2023, a case about a security-staff labour dispute rather than about the establishment’s conduct.

Tourist complex in Puerto Rico, Mogán, named among eight establishments used for Red Cross-managed migrant accommodation in Supreme Court judgment STS 197/2023. Separately, and after the official arrangement ended, the hotel's director Calvin Lucock and his wife Unn Tove Saetran kept the hotel open at their own expense to shelter young men who had left or fallen out of the state reception system, 58 people including eight unaccompanied minors, mainly from Morocco, Senegal and other West African countries, with food provided through Saetran's restaurant. The couple went on to found the Fundación Canaria Mama África. The arrangement was disputed: timeshare owners at the resort, through the Timeshare Consumer Association, contested the humanitarian account and objected to the use of the property. Both positions are reported here as the parties' own; we take no view between them.
