The Gables
The Gables is a former guesthouse and leisure centre on the Athgarvan Road in Newbridge, Co. Kildare, on the banks of the River Liffey. It appears in the Government of Ireland's published collection of IPAS inspection reports for Direct Provision and EROC centres in County Kildare, with an inspection report dated Q2 2025. According to Kfm Radio (September 2023), the Department of Integration entered into a contract with the owners of The Gables to provide accommodation for 100 international protection applicants. According to the Kildare Nationalist (April 2026), the centre continues to house international protection applicants under a state contract; the same report notes that planning referrals were lodged with An Coimisiún Pleanála in March 2026 over whether converting such properties to IPAS use amounts to development requiring planning permission, with decisions expected later in 2026.
