Background
The centre stands next to the Fylakio pre-removal detention centre, which has its own page. It registers and screens people crossing the land border and, according to AIDA, some people redirected from the mainland centres when those are full; afterwards most are referred to mainland sites. AIDA reports that people are held under a restriction of freedom of movement of 5 days, extendable by up to 20, and that the Greek Council for Refugees observed cases beyond 25 days. The ministry describes fencing, turnstiles, X-ray scanners and CCTV. AIDA reports that the Reception and Identification Service registered 7,673 people in Evros in 2025. An earlier version of the ministry's page for the centre, dated 20 March 2024 and online until at least 23 January 2026, gave 768 places: 330 in the old buildings, 142 in the new extension and 4 for disabled people, plus 284 places and 8 places for disabled people labelled as pre-removal centre places in the new extension. AIDA's reports of September 2025 and July 2026 repeat this as 768 places, 284 of them belonging to the pre-removal centre. In its response of 29 May 2024 to the Council of Europe's anti-torture committee (CPT), the ministry said that most of the extension consists of four wards of the pre-removal centre, run by the Hellenic Police. In replies to parliamentary questions, the ministry has given 756 places for this centre, as both nominal and operational capacity, at every date published from 30 June 2024 to 31 December 2025. Its page has said 756 since 18 February 2026, with no pre-removal section. No published source says whether the 756 includes the extension's pre-removal wards, so we show 756 as reported. None of these breakdowns includes the 232 places of the older Hellenic Police pre-removal building, which has its own page. The most recent figure we found is in the ministry's monthly bulletin for August 2026. It gives 661 residents in closed centres and reception and identification centres in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. Fylakio is the only such centre in the region, so this figure is derived for Fylakio and was not published for the site. For December 2025 the same table gives 661, against 676 in the parliamentary reply.
The position is placed by hand beside an unnamed OpenStreetMap compound at Fylakio that is most likely the adjoining pre-removal centre; it is offset from that centre's pin so that both can be seen. It is approximate.
Reported incidents
No reported incident is listed for this site. An incident is listed only if a mainstream, court, police or official source reports it, so an empty list does not mean that none occurred.

The Ministry of Migration and Asylum publishes a page for each reception structure with its name and address, but no coordinates, and its list is not kept up to date. For the five island centres the figures are those of the National Situational Picture (NSP) of 1 September 2026. For the mainland they are those of the ministry's reply to a parliamentary question of 6 February 2026 (figures at 31 December 2025), as published by Refugee Support Aegean, with the table of the AIDA country report (July 2026) for June 2025 beside them. Capacity is the figure each source gives, nominal unless the page says otherwise, and is not a headcount; where sources differ, each figure is shown with its date. For Samos and Leros the pre-removal detention places that the ministry's pages describe are subtracted from the NSP figure, and our Samos and Leros pages say so. Positions are placed by hand from map features and addresses and are approximate. No cost is published for any single site. Incidents are listed only where a mainstream, court, police or official source reports them, with the stage reached; an empty list does not mean that none occurred.
