According to France terre d'asile and Rue89 Bordeaux (2018), more than 200 people, mostly Sahrawi asylum seekers, lived in undignified conditions in a camp/squat at quai Deschamps on Bordeaux's right bank near the Passerelle Eiffel. During a flood the prefecture offered two nights of hotel accommodation; the camp later suffered a fire (1 May 2018) and repeated evictions without rehousing solutions.

According to Rue89 Bordeaux (February 2016), Sahrawi asylum seekers settled in a disused hangar at quai Deschamps in October 2015 after the clearance of the Saint-Jean bridge shantytown, with between 100 and 200 people living without running water or toilets and rain coming through the roof.
