(2020), the volunteer-run Refuge solidaire in Briançon shelters migrants who cross the Franco-Italian border via the Montgenèvre pass and had hosted around 10,000 people since July 2017. The article reports that mayor Arnaud Murgia issued an eviction notice in 2020 citing safety concerns, but public pressure including a 40,000-signature petition led him to commit in writing to halt expulsions for six months. The site later operated from the Terrasses solidaires at 34 route de Grenoble.
