Noodopvang Vries (Oude Rijksweg)
The former hotel Het Wapen van Vries in Vries (Tynaarlo) was used as emergency reception, housing around 40 to 47 asylum seekers, after an earlier group had been accommodated in a church hall in nearby Zuidlaren. The arrangement, supported by aid organisation INLIA and the COA, was intended as an interim solution until more permanent reception could be arranged in the municipality, with the initial term running to around April 2025. Tynaarlo's mayor was publicly critical of national asylum policy and the Dispersal Law during this period.

Cost
Dutch asylum reception is funded by central government through the COA. At an illustrative benchmark of about €184 per person per night for emergency reception (noodopvang), the 44 people recorded here on 13 August 2025 imply roughly €3.0m per year. This is an order-of-magnitude figure for context only, not a site-specific invoice — emergency reception typically runs around three times the cost of a regular centre.
