Immigration detention, not accommodation

This is a place of custody pending removal. It is not accommodation, its places are not counted as accommodation capacity anywhere on this site, and it is shown apart from the reception sites.

Border Guard guarded centres hold foreigners under a court order. Their 2025 costs include staff, unlike the figures for the Office for Foreigners' reception centres, so the two sets of figures are not comparable and are not added together.

The Lesznowola Guarded Centre for Foreigners is a Border Guard detention centre at Lisówek 21, near Grójec (Masovian Voivodeship). It is not in the municipality of Lesznowola near Warsaw. It is the largest of the Border Guard's guarded centres: at the end of 2025 it had 392 places and 212 people held (AIDA). The Interior Ministry says it is the only guarded centre able to take women and children, and AIDA reports that men are held in one part of the site and women, married couples and families with children in a separate building. It is not accommodation, and its places are not accommodation capacity.

Background

Guarded centres for foreigners are run by the Border Guard. People are placed in them by court order, pending removal. They hold foreigners, including people who have applied for international protection. They are separate from the open reception centres run by the Office for Foreigners.[4],[5]

In its reply of March 2026 the Interior Ministry says that this is the only guarded centre able to take women and children. AIDA reports that men are held in one part of the site and women, married couples and families with children in a separate building.[1],[4]

At the end of 2025, five guarded centres were in use (Biała Podlaska, Białystok, Kętrzyn, Lesznowola and Przemyśl), with 1,032 places and 795 people held in total, counting the arrest unit in Przemyśl (AIDA). The Krosno Odrzańskie centre has been out of use since 1 October 2024.[4],[6]

The 2025 costs of the guarded centres come from the Interior Ministry's replies to interpellations 14740 to 14745 (March 2026). Unlike the figures for the reception centres, they include staff, so the two sets of figures are not comparable and are not added together.[7]

The centres run by the Office for Foreigners (UdSC) are the nine that the Interior Ministry (MSWiA) lists in its reply to Sejm interpellation 14750 of 12 May 2026. The number of residents on 31 December 2025 and the 2025 running cost of each centre come from that reply. The ministry gives no total, and the total of PLN 38.9m used on this site is our sum of the nine figures. The running cost excludes staff wages and the allowances paid to people living outside the centres. Capacity for 2025 is published only as a total of 1,525 places (AIDA, citing Office for Foreigners data), so no centre shows a capacity of its own for 2025; where an earlier per-centre figure exists it is shown with its date. Border Guard detention is listed apart and is not accommodation: its 2025 costs and numbers held come from the ministry's replies to interpellations 14740 to 14745 (March 2026), and its places and numbers held at the end of 2025 from AIDA. The Office for Foreigners' own list of centres showed no content when we checked on 4 October 2026, so addresses and positions come from the sources named on each page and are marked approximate where they are not the publisher's own.
