Germany is federal: the Bund funds it, the Länder and municipalities run it. There is no national register, so this coverage starts city by city. Saxony's interior ministry answers a standing quarterly question on the accommodation of asylum seekers, and its annexe lists every municipal Gemeinschaftsunterkunft in all ten Landkreise with capacity and occupancy on the quarter day. One document covers the whole Land and is refreshed four times a year, which makes it among the more current registers on this map. It names each site by municipality and street but never by house number, so these pins are placed on the street rather than on the building. It does separate accommodation for people displaced from Ukraine, which several other German authorities decline to do, so where a site is shown as Ukraine accommodation that is the Land's own classification. Gemeinschaftsunterkünfte hold well under half the people in Saxony's municipal system; the rest are in ordinary flats, which we do not map in any country.
