Noodopvang Eindhoven (Kanaaldijk-Zuid)

The Kanaaldijk-Zuid site in Eindhoven, a former winter emergency shelter, has been a COA emergency reception location since 10 June 2022. The Red Cross ran it under the COA's direction for its first days before COA staff took over on 15 June. It opened for up to 96 people and was at first expected to be needed only until the end of 2022, but was kept open longer; in January 2024 the city agreed to expand it to 250 residents and keep it open for up to five more years. The municipality says it houses families, single people and couples, and that from January 2026 it also houses 48 unaccompanied minor asylum seekers who moved from the COA's Keizersgracht location, within the same limit of 250 places. The location is due to stay open until 2029 at the latest.

At an illustrative benchmark of about €184 per person per night for emergency reception (noodopvang), the 216 people recorded here on 13 August 2025 imply roughly €15m per year. This is an order-of-magnitude figure for context only, not a site-specific invoice, emergency reception typically runs around three times the cost of a regular centre.
