Noodopvang Groningen (Gideonweg)
A reception boat for asylum seekers moored at the Gideonweg in Groningen has been the scene of two serious incidents. On 3 January 2025 police responded to a man wielding a knife on the boat; after tasers failed to stop him, five officers fired a total of 13 shots, wounding him in the legs, foot and abdomen, after which he set a small fire on board before being overpowered. Dutch asylum reception is funded by central government through the COA. At an illustrative benchmark of about €184 per person per night for emergency reception (noodopvang), the 3 people recorded here on 13 August 2025 imply roughly €201k per year. This is an order-of-magnitude figure for context only, not a site-specific invoice, emergency reception typically runs around three times the cost of a regular centre.
