Noodopvang Groningen (Gideonweg)
A reception boat for asylum seekers moored at the Gideonweg in Groningen has been the scene of two serious incidents. On 3 January 2025 police responded to a man wielding a knife on the boat; after tasers failed to stop him, five officers fired a total of 13 shots, wounding him in the legs, foot and abdomen, after which he set a small fire on board before being overpowered. In October 2025 the Public Prosecution Service ruled the officers had acted lawfully. On 15 March 2026 a separate stabbing on the boat left two people injured and led to one arrest.

Cost
Dutch asylum reception is funded by central government through the COA. At an illustrative benchmark of about €184 per person per night for emergency reception (noodopvang), the 3 people recorded here on 13 August 2025 imply roughly €201k per year. This is an order-of-magnitude figure for context only, not a site-specific invoice — emergency reception typically runs around three times the cost of a regular centre.
